30 I66151  MERRIAM, George Rennell III    Dr. Merriam was a principal leader and organizer behind the Meriam's Corner festivities held at the Minuteman National Historical Park each April. Patriots hid behind the Meriam house on April 19, 1975 and fired on the British troops who were in retreat back to Lexington and Boston. Typically held one weekend before Patriot's Day by the Village of Concord, the commemoration includes a parade that ends at the Meriam house. Merriam descendants are invited to participate and march behind the Mer(r)iam banner. A business meeting, tours of the house and an evening banquet are typical of the events.
