STUDY HALL MONITOR
She was always outspoken and didn't care who she offended with her opinions. You always knew where you stood with her, even if you didn't like where that was.
When my dad and aunts were growing up, she worked as a study hall monitor for the local middle and high schools, for which she received a pension the rest of her life. She and my grandfather moved to Florida when they retired, and after his death she moved to the Houston area to be near my dad and our family.
When she was in her late 80s and early 90s she volunteered almost every day at the local elementary school to help those kids who were having trouble with reading. She received a number of awards and thanks, both official and unofficial, from parents, teachers, and school district administrators. [1] |
