[Asaph Merriam enlisted in the Sixth Connecticut regiment on April 24, 1777, and served three years and was made a pensioner in 1832. He was in Captain Couch's company at the time, so many were captured in 1776, but he was not made a prisoner. The Sixth regiment saw a great deal of service. It went into camp in Peekskill in the summer of 1777, but frequently was detached on expeditions.]
